Flipkart Jumps On Board To Challenge Amazon’s Same-Day E-Commerce Delivery Model

Flipkart vs Amazon: Same-Day Delivery Battle

Flipkart has launched same-day delivery for numerous product categories in 20 locations, notably Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Patna, and Vijayawada, among others.

Customers can get their goods delivered before midnight beginning in February provided they place the order by 1 pm, according to a statement released on Wednesday. The service will be expanded to other cities within the next few months.

Approved product categories include mobile phones, fashion, beauty items, lifestyle, literature, home appliances, and electronics.

Flipkart’s plan will pit it against rival Amazon’s same-day delivery service, which is offered to Prime users. Over the years, the US tech giant’s India subsidiary has relied on same-day delivery to generate Prime Day sales.

“From Prime Day 2022 to now, we kept emphasizing our same-day delivery program and extended our reach to 21 more cities versus 2022,” said Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Customer Fulfilment, Supply Chain, and Amazon Transportation Services at Amazon India. Flipkart has invested in many fulfillment centers and expanded the technology to provide same-day delivery, resulting in improved sortation and throughput.

It has also implemented machine learning algorithms to promote rigorous route planning, optimization of delivery routes, shorter pick-up times from aisles, and quicker product sortation, it claimed.

“Given that customers from both metro and non-metro cities enjoy shopping on Flipkart, we are working to provide same-day delivery to 20 cities, reinforcing our commitment to remaining at the forefront of customer satisfaction,” said Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain, Customer Experience, and eCommerce Business at Flipkart Group.

“We are going to scale it in the months that follow, add more cities and more sectors including large appliances, to delight the customers,” he told reporters. The Walmart-owned company intends to optimize its supply chain network so that millions of orders are processed effortlessly each day, with equal speed of delivery in metro as well as non-metro cities, Badri said.
