GPT Mentions released by OpenAI; see what this feature can achieve

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, appears to have quietly introduced a new feature recently. Led by Sam Altman, OpenAI has introduced the GPT Mentions feature to ChatGPT, allowing users to incorporate custom GPTs or bots into conversations simply by tagging them, much like how it’s done on platforms like Slack.

During OpenAI’s inaugural developer conference, they unveiled Custom GPTs, a feature enabling users to create their own bots and potentially monetize them through the GPT Store, a platform where users can discover and access various custom versions of GPT created by different individuals.

According to Dan Shipper, CEO of Every, an AI startup, this addition significantly enhances the utility of custom GPTs in everyday interactions. With reduced friction, usage is expected to rise, aligning with OpenAI’s aspirations for an app store. The shipper was among the first to anticipate this feature from OpenAI.

Following this development, numerous custom GPTs have emerged, laying the groundwork for interactions between users. The feature enables users to mention other custom GPTs in their prompts using ‘@’. However, it’s worth noting that this feature is currently in beta and restricted to ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

Once fully rolled out, users will find the feature integrated into the ChatGPT interface, allowing them to utilize multiple GPTS in each interaction with the chatbot. This expansion of capabilities extends ChatGPT beyond basic chat functionality, potentially facilitating workflow automation and handling complex daily tasks with AI assistance.

Looking ahead, GPT-4 is anticipated to introduce further enhancements, allowing custom GPTS and plugins to function within the same prompt. This unique feature will position ChatGPT ahead of other chatbots like Google Bard and Anthropic Claude 2, offering users the best tools to aid them in their tasks.
