Amazon Web Services (AWS) has entered into a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe). This collaboration aims to leverage cloud computing services to support innovation in the field of space technology.

The partnership’s primary objective is to provide space startups, research institutions, and students with access to advanced cloud technologies that can expedite the development of innovative solutions within the space sector.

As part of the MoU, AWS will extend various tools, resources, and technical support through the AWS Activate program to eligible space startups. This support will enable these startups to more efficiently develop and commercialize space-tech solutions. Additionally, startups will have the opportunity to tap into AWS’s global expertise in aerospace and satellite solutions through the AWS Space Accelerator program.

Shalini Kapoor, Director and Chief Technologist, Public Sector, AWS India and South Asia, expressed, “We look forward to helping customers in India build space-tech solutions to make life on Earth better.”

The three organizations will also collaborate on a new initiative aimed at educating students and educators in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), analytics, and security. This initiative will leverage AWS education programs to enable students to pursue industry-recognized cloud computing certifications. It aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to create future space startups in India using advanced technologies.

IN-SPACe has been actively working to empower and facilitate the growth of the private space sector. This partnership with AWS underscores IN-SPACe’s commitment to empowering startups, students, and researchers to push the boundaries of innovation in the space industry and contribute to the global space community, as stated by Dr. Vinod Kumar, Director of the Promotion Directorate at IN-SPACe.
